The Broad Alumni Institute
A Project for Broad Institute Alumni
The Broad Institute for School Boards annual Alumni Institute provides all Broad Fellows still serving as school board members the opportunity to advance their education as reform leaders.
Whereas The Broad Institute is designed as an induction program for newly elected or appointed board members, the Alumni Institute is designed as an advanced course for experienced board members. Like The Broad Institute, the Alumni Institute is built around case studies. But unlike The Broad Institute, which introduces board members to the full range of reform governance issues at a high level, the Alumni Institute digs deeply into a limited number of governance issues.
The focus of the 2004 Alumni Institute was Theories of Action for Change. Through case studies, presentations, and small group work, Fellows analyzed urban district reform leadership, considered the strengths and weaknesses of the major comprehensive reform theories that are currently driving improvements in student achievement in the highest performing urban districts, and examined the policy frameworks required to implement these theories of action.
Through interaction with friends from their own class and fellowship with Fellows from other classes, Fellows strengthened and expanded their bonds with like-minded reform leaders from urban districts throughout America.
The mission of The Broad Institute for School Boards is to improve the governance and reform leadership of urban school boards. The Institute provides induction training. The Alumni Institute provides Fellows with the opportunity to renew commitments, build deep knowledge, and strengthen and expand relationships. |
